The drama of Running after buses and shopping!!!

Hi everyone! Sorry I was unable to write! (I did say this was roughly every day!) Tuesday was a very busy day with not much time to sit down and write something. So this post is going to be both Tuesday and today (Wednesday). I will try to keep it short as possible!

So Tuesday…. First day of School!!! It really should not be that exciting since it is school but it was my first day of class, in England. There gets to be excitement. The morning class session was led by Dave with Kate and Asmeth observing from the side. Dave is a tall man with a face full of white bread that connects with his white hair. Dave has a a sense of humor and likes to crack little jokes and even burst out into a little tap dance at one point. Kate on the other hand is a short and has a dry sense of humor, but says the wittiest things, sarcastic sometimes but always funny. Asmeth is a graduate student from Turkey who is working with Dave and Kate.

Class 1/Schools: We were doing drama activities (That’s what I am learning/ taking here!!! Drama in the classroom!) about being the last wolf in the zoo. It was interesting to watch Dave build up what we were doing into the poem and background knowledge provided. Later after lunch of grilled cheese, it was a big group effort but yummy, we learned a little more about the three schools we are going to. We only go to 2 schools but they split us in groups of six to cover two very different schools. More on the school trips on Monday and later on.

After once again being let go from class we had time to get ready and eat before we went to a play. Tonight’s dinner: tacos. However these were the following problems: frozen meet to cook with that was not defrosted (don’t worry Emma and I were able to get things cooked) and rice that was still crunching. Yummy. So barely cleaning up and taking the bus we sent off to the Theatre Royal Brighton. Once meeting up with Mary, Zoey, Asmeth and Kate we watch a play about aging opera singers in a home. It was quite funny and wonderful to watch. The difference between American and British theatre: we were able to take our drinks or purchase ice cream into the actual theatre not have to try and down it in one gulp.

So after going back to the dorms, everyone looking a little fancier and winded after almost missing a bus, all 12 of us went out to Royal Pavilion Tavern. We met two new mates, Kerin and Fred, who invited us to go clubbing with them. I really did not want to be there since the whole group was going we all walked around town and went to the club. We wanted to try and be back home before 2 however that did not happen since we were just going to the club at 1:45 am. Half the group went back earlier (2:30 compared to 4 am) and we had a fun bus ride back.

Well after a late night or as Chris told Kate in class today “An early morning,” we all sat in class with very sleepy faces and actions. Today’s class was about using drama with a picture. Instead of acting out the book, we instead made up new stories with what the author did not include: what was the mother like? Why did Jack turn to stone. Concluding class we all went back to the dorm as we decided what to do with our free afternoon. Lunch and a nap were in order. The nap really helped, however I am still very tired, yet no jetlag at all. (I have a feeling that it is going to come slap me in the face…). My group/ wolf pack consists of Emma, Jessica, Chris, Hana, Claire and I seem to stick together a lot. The group had to once again race for the bus (have you noticed a theme?) we decided to go SHOPPING!!!!!!!! The shopping area is huge with allies filled with shops everywhere! Poor Chris having to go in all those girly stores with dresses…. At least he ended up getting a shirt…The trip to the aquarium trip was postponed since we liked going in all the stores. Now here is where things get tricky: I only bought post cards and £2 earrings!!! Woo go me!!! Oh and coffee. But after traipsing around The Lanes for a couple hours we were meeting up with the other 6 girls at Ha Ha Bar. However we did not end up at Ha Ha but at Italian restaurant across the way. It was really wonderful.

Finally ending our night, no running to catch a bus, we went back to our dorms where we have been able to relax and are planning our trip to London from the next couple of days!!! Talk to everyone later!! All my love!!

If you are going to go swimming make sure you where your swimming costume!!! Cheers!!!

  1. Nicole - sounds like you are having a really great experience. I love your "word of the day" at the end of your blogs. Have you heard anyone referring to being drunk as "pissed?"

    love you,
