LONDON Part 2
7-9-10 cont: Leaving Leicester Square Mary and Zoe took us to Fortnum and Mason, where the Queen shops. It was a very fancy store and I felt out of place in jeans. Fortnum and Mason is like Macy’s on diamonds and gold. Yup that pretty, high standards if the Queen shops there. After leaving the Fortnum and Mason we left Mary and Zoe to go find our hostel. We basically just stopped by to drop off backpacks instead of carrying them around London some more. Next we made our way over to Abbey Road, where yep we walked across the road like the Beatles. Know this: that is a busy street!!! The cars kinda of put up with us tourist, but a very busy road. I felt ridiculous walking across the road. So ridiculous. Also along Abbey Road is a tribute wall to the Beatles covered in their lyrics, marriage proposals and Dumbledore’s Army (?). When we were going back to the tube station we saw/heard a crash a little up Abbey Road. None of us were hurt, but we decided to leave so we were not in the way.
Once again we got on the tube and headed towards Baker Street to go to Madame Tussads. However once we got there they were just short of closing, so we decided to go back on Saturday. After that we went to The London Eye to see the rooftops of London. While 360° was amazing I could not get the Mary Poppins’ Chimney song out of my head…. While all of the view was wonderful, my favorite was looking at Big Ben and the House of Parliament. After the ride we went to dinner in a Pub by our hostel. I had Bambi in a pie and he was yummy!!!! Finally turning in for the night, the group of 8 split up into 2 groups Hana and I and the other six in one room. The hostel was nice but shaddy: It was in a nice part of town however everything was well used.
Day 2 July 10,2010
The only excitement that happened to us at the hostel was someone thought our room was theirs. For breakfast we had wait for it: Mc Donald’s. I know, I know, however it was cheap and really the only breakfast place around that area. After breakfast we headed over to Madame Tussads Wax Museum. We saw the Queen and Obama and a whole handful of famous faces. It was fairly packed and sometimes you would almost bump into someone who was standing in front of you and it would turn out to be Will Smith or someone created in wax. After the Museum we went back to Leicester Square to wait to go see Les Miserables and lunch. Before that though we went to King's Cross where yup we tried to get to Hogwarts through Platform 9 3/4!!! I like to think I made it. About time to!!!!
Les Mis was so amazing! We almost could not find the theater, but we were very determined to go see it since Nick Jonas was the male lead (ish, he played the main student, Marius who falls in love with Cosette). I thought it was a wonderful play even for being up in the nose bleed section and missed some things. On the stage that had a giant turntable and amazing moveable, climb-on those sets. (Here is a link so go and watch the movies if you have time!!!
http://www.lesmis.com/gallery/videos/). Coming out of the theater we came out a side we were just going to try and meet up with the girls who did not go to the play. However we came out of the side alley and there was a crowd, a car and two ggoons guarding the stage door. We decided it was worth trying to see if Nick would come out. It was worth really going all crazy fan girly to try and see someone famous up close… (I mean we did see Nick Jonas on stage). However Nick’s body guard came out and said nick would be out in about one hour. At that point we decided it was not worth waiting to see a Jo-Bro. However does it count that I saw his bodyguard?
Jumping back on the train once more would end our 2 days in London. However excitement was still in the cards for us. On our train we were joined by the British village people: Scuba Steve, A Priest, A Shark, Indiana Jones, a rocker and the guys from Dumb and Dumber (orange and powder blue tuxedos). Turns out that were going to a stag (bachelor) party in Brighton. Overall London was amazing!!!!!!
